A Comparison of Predictability of Physician-Diagnosed Dyslipidemia according to Increased Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar and Waist Circumference: A Nationwide Population-Based Retrospective Cohort Study
초록
Background: Metabolic syndrome, which includes various cardiovascular risk factors such as dyslipidemia, has been associated with a number of diseases. These correlations have already been identified in a number of studies. Although studies on these correlations have been performed in Korea, only few of these studies are recent. Based on the data published by the National Health Insurance Corporation, we evaluated the hazard ratio of patients with physician-diagnosed dyslipidemia in terms of the relationship between increased blood pressure, blood sugar, and waist circumference. Methods: Metabolic syndrome components were defined according to the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III (NCEPATP-III) criteria based on data of adults aged >30 years who were registered in the National Health Insurance Corporation between December 31, 2009, and December 31, 2013. By using a multivariable Cox regression analysis, we examined the association between the increased number of metabolic syndrome components and dyslipidemia occurrence. Results: Of the 110,700 people who participated in this study, 10,697 were diagnosed as having dyslipidemia. Dyslipidemia was examined according to person-years and hazard ratio, and showed a tendency to aggravate significantly according to the increase in the number of metabolic syndrome components (P<0.001). Higher waist circumference in women and increased blood pressure indicated a higher hazard ratio (P<0.001). Conclusion: Increased blood pressure, blood glucose, and waist circumference as well as the combination of these risk factors increase the hazard ratio and person year of dyslipidemia.
