초록

Twe nty-nine patients wi th orbita l in!1amma tory disease (OIDs) were retrospectively reviewed in o rder to a na lyze detailed CT “ ndings which mig ht a id in diffe re nc ia ting OIDs This study comprised 18 pseudotumors. 5 thyroid ophthalmopathies. and 6 cases of orbital cellulitis CT scans of the pseudotumors showed various findings s uch as exophthalmos. scleritis. m yositis of the extraocula r muscl e (MOM). a nd bone lesion. Bon e lesions of the pseudo tumors. whic h have bec n rarely reported‘ wcre prcscnt in 7 cases in our serics Bilatera l exoph tha lmos. m yositis. a nd retrobulbar fa t de position were readily de tected by CT in thy roid ophthalmopathy. and . in addition. we found bone erosions involving the orbital a pices in 2 cases In orbita l cell ulitis. extraorbita l soft tissue swelling a nd latera l displacement of the medial rectus muscle in cases with ethmoiditis were the most conspicuous features In summary‘ because of th e overla pping CT findings in OIDs. careful examina tion of CT findings regarding the m ode of EOM involvement and the presen ce or abse nce of sc le ri tis or sinu sitis might he lp narrow down the diffe rential diagnosis. A pseudotumor with bone lesions could be mistaken as a maligna n t lesion‘ and th erefore it is n ecessary to correlate clin ical features with CT findings for a n accura te diagn osis
