Triple-wavelength diode laser (755 nm, 810 nm, and 1064 nm): Preliminary efficacy and safety for skin-tightening

Background For skin tightening, sufficient energy must be delivered to the lower dermis. Because of this, the long-pulsed Nd-YAG laser has been the main modality for this indication; but it has the disadvantage of occasionally causing burns. Thus, different types of laser treatment are being investigated for use in skin tightening. The tripe-wavelength diode laser (755 nm, 810 nm, 1064 nm), which is most widely used for hair removal, is one such candidate. It has multiple simultaneous penetration levels and enables multiple affecting depths. Objective This study aims to investigate the efficacy of the triple-wavelength diode laser for skin tightening. Methods and materials Thirteen patients (mean age 50.9 years) who visited a local dermatologic clinic in Korea without underlying inflammatory facial skin diseases were included. All patients received 5 successive treatments at 2-week intervals. The outcome was determined by histopathology, Dermavision-PRO skin image analysis system, and patient satisfaction surveys. Results All patients experienced both subjective and objective improvement. The patient satisfaction surveys showed that 12 patients (92%) perceived a moderate to excellent improvement (>50%) in their condition. No adverse reactions were reported. Histopathologic evaluation with hematoxylin & eosin staining showed new collagen generation in the dermis. Victoria blue staining showed an increased number of thick elastic bundles in the dermal-epidermal junction. UV image of DermaVision-PRO showed improvement of pigmented lesions. Conclusion Our preliminary findings suggest that the integrated triple-wavelength diode laser is a favorable candidate for skin tightening.
