Contraction inhibitory effect of micro-electrical stimulation in human uterine muscle tissue

초록

Objective The purpose of this study is to investigate the inhibition of uterine contraction by micro-electrical stimulation in uterine smooth muscle tissue. Study Design Maternal uterine smooth muscle tissue was obtained with maternal consent after IRB approval [2020AN0339, 2020AN0014]. Myography experiment was performed with the uterine muscle tissue obtained from cesarean section. Myography data were analyzed in both control and micro-electrical stimulation groups. Results were analyzed by quantifying the contraction peak amplitude. Data were statistically analyzed. Statistical significance was set at P < 0.05. Results Contraction inhibitory effect was confirmed in uterine muscle tissue obtained from preterm delivery patients ( P < 0.0001), but it was not statistically significant in full-term delivery patients (Fig. 1). There were two types of the inhibitory effect by micro-electrical stimulation. One type was the immediate inhibition within 10 min after stimulation. The other type was the slow inhibition at least after 20 min of micro-electric stimulation (Fig. 2). Conclusion Micro-electrical stimulation can inhibit the contraction of the uterine muscle tissue. It would be valuable to develop a therapeutic device that decreases uterine contractions based on the data.
