Long term follow up of pulmonary function changes in a case acute respiratory failure due to COVID-19 pneumonia

Introduction: We want to know pulmonary function change of acute respiratory failure due to COVID-19 pneumonia. We experienced a case acute respiratory failure due to COVID 19 pneumonia. Case report: A 72-year-old female patient was admitted to emergency room of this hospital. She had hypertension. On admission day, her chief complaint was mental change. On arrival at hospital, she diagnosed COVID-19 by throat and oral swap. On arrival at hospital, she required mechanical ventilation treatment. Chest X-ray showed haziness in both lungs. She was treated with remdesivir 100 mg iv for 6days and dexamethasone 5mg 10days. She was treated low molecular weight heparin(cnoxan) 40mg sc for prophylaxis of deep vein thrombosis. On days 14 of hospitalization, she was performed tracheostomy. On days 52 of hospitalization, she was stoma closure of trachea. He was discharged from the hospital on day 54. After 5months follow up PFT, chest x-ray and chest CT. PFT showed FEV1/FVC 89%, FVC (1.55L) 67%, FEV1 (1.38L) 82% BDR(-), DLCO 70 mL/min/mmHg and TLC 65L. After 11 months later follow up PFT, chest X-ray and chest CT. PFT showed FEV1/FVC 87, FVC 82 (1.91L), FEV1 99 (1.65L), BDR(-) DLCO 85mL/min/mmHg and TLC 75L. Chest CT showed Perironchial faint patchy GGO lesions in both lungs with bronchiectasis/bronchiolectasia, most severe in BULs and RML. Subpleural bands and subtle mosaic attenuation in both lungs. Discussion: After acute respiratory failure due to COVID 19 pneumonia, pulmonary function can completely recovered in 2 months later despite of severe respiratory failure.
