Comparison of Clinical Outcomes Between Second Generation Drug-Eluting Stents in Acute Myocardial Infarction Patients: 10-Year Follow-Up Results

Background There are very limited long-term clinical outcome data comparing the second- generation drug-eluting stent (DES), zotarolimus- and everolimus-eluting stent in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients. The authors sought to compare the efficacy and safety between zotarolimus- and everolimus-eluting stent in AMI patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) during 10-year clinical follow-up periods. Methods A total of 503 consecutive AMI patients who underwent PCI with Zotarolimus (n=244) or Everolimus (n=259) were enrolled. After propensity score matching (PSM), two PSM groups (158 pairs) were generated. The study endpoints were individual and composite clinical outcomes up to 10-year. Results During the 10-year follow-up period, the cumulative incidence of total death, cardiac death, myocardial infarction (MI), revascularization, target lesion revascularization (TLR), target vessel revascularization (TVR), non-target vessel revascularization (NTVR), stroke, major adverse cardiac events (MACE), TLR MACE, and major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) were similar between the two groups (Table). Conclusion In our single-center, all-comer registry, second generation DES comparison between zotarolimus-eluting stent and everolimus-eluting stent in AMI patients showed similar individual and composite clinical outcomes over 10-year follow-up periods.
