Association between non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and the risk of early-onset ovarian cancer in young women

초록

Methods: A total of 2,311,949 women aged 20 39 years who underwent national health screening under the Korean National Health Insurance Service between 2009 and 2012 were included in this nationwide cohort study and followed up until December 2018. The risk was estimated using multivariable Cox proportional hazards models. Results: During the 16.9 million person years of follow up, 2,614 young women were newly diagnosed with early onset ovarian cancer. NAFLD was associated with an increased risk of early onset ovarian cancer (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR], 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.32, 1.11,1.55). Compared to non-obese women without NAFLD, both non obese women with NAFLD and obese women with NAFLD had an increased risk of early onset ovarian cancer (aHR, 95% CI: 1.25, 1.03,1.52 and 1.44, 1.15,1.80, respectively). Conclusions: NAFLD was associated with an increased risk of early onset ovarian cancer. Our findings may benefit the next generation by reducing premature morbidity and mortality associated with early onset ovarian cancer.
