초록

To evaluate the relationship between the ras oncogene expression and the development of colorectal neoplasms. immunohistochemical staining for ras oncogene products and silver staining for nucleolar organizer regions were performed in the total 114 cases of normal. adenoma. and adenocarcinoma of the colon The results were summarized as follows: 1. The positive reactions to ras oncogene products were diffusely noted in the cytoplasms and along their membranes of colonic epithelia. 2 Staining indices for ras products were significantly increased in the cases of adeno-carcinoma compared with adenoma and normal mucosa 3. Expression of ras oncogene products was significantly increased in poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma compared with well differentiated adenocarcinoma. However, the staining index was not always correlated with the depth of invasion. 4. Staining index was slightly increased in adenoma unrelated with carcinoma compared with that associated with carcinoma. Normal mucosa adjacent to carcinoma and adenoma and fetal tissue were slightly increased in ras products compared with unspecified normal mucosa. 5. The mean numbers of Ag-NORs and total score (ras staining index plus mean numbers of Ag-NORs) were significanty higher in the cases of adenocarcinoma compared with adenoma and normal murosa The correlation betweon staining index for ras products and numbers of Ag-NORs was weak (r=0.37).
