Massive formation of uniform-sized embryonid bodies in alginate with the regulation of encapsulated cell number

This paper proposes a cell-encapsulation chip for uniform embryoid body (EB) formation via regulating the number of encapsulated cells in an alginate bead. We added a cell-scattering part in cell-encapsulation chip to disperse the clumps of aggregated cells. When the cell-scattering part was implemented, the number of cells in a capsule was distributed as similar as the number of polymer beads. After 4-day culture of encapsulated cells, relatively uniform-sized EB's were obtained compared with the conventional method. © 2008 CBMS.
