EXERCISE IMPROVED FLOW MEDIATED DILATION AFTER HAMBURGER DIET COMPARED WITH KOREAN FOOD

초록

Background and Aims: The ingestion of high-fat meals induces a state of endothelial dysfunction. And previous studies has demonstrated conflicting results on the effects of acute exercise on flow mediated dilation (FMD). To assess the effects of high fat diet and exercise on FMD, we measured FMD 3 times, at fasting, after meals, and after exercise. Methods: Twenty five young healthy men volunteered for this study. People were randomly assigned to the 4 groups, (1) Regular Korean style diet (850 kcal with fat 18g) and walking (2km distance, 30 minutes) (N=6), (2) Regular Korean style diet and running (5km distance, 30 minutes) (N=7), (3) Hamburger diet (Big Mac, Cola, and French Fries; 890 kcal with fat 39g) and walking (N=6), (4) Hamburger diet and running (N=6). We checked FMD, lipid profiles, and EPCs 3 times each other. Results: After meals, there was no significant difference in FMD, lipid profiles and EPCs among 4 groups. After exercise, there was significant increase of FMD in Hamburger diet group without reference to exercise intensity (4.44±3.5 to 9.16±4.4 vs. 8.27±3.9 to 8.39±4.7; P=0.009). Among Hamburger group, there was significant fall of triglyceride in running group compared to walking (166±97 to 118±49 vs. 166±83 to 183±109; P=0.034). Conclusions: After high fat diet, exercise improved FMD and running reduced triglyceride compared to walking.
