Recent Recommendations for Sclerotherapy in Varicose Veins: American and European Guidelines

Varicose veins are among the most common venous disorders affecting the lower extremities, and many individuals suffer from their symptoms. A variety of treatment methods, including sclerotherapy, are currently being employed for varicose veins. Sclerotherapy, a minimally invasive technique, has recently gained increased attention, and various approaches are being developed and introduced. Although long-term clinical outcomes have yet to be fully established, recent major clinical guidelines are referencing sclerotherapy with increasing frequency, and both the quality of evidence and the strength of recommendations are steadily improving. In the United States, major guidelines from professional societies addressing sclerotherapy were published in two parts, in 2022 and 2023. Similarly, updated European guidelines, which include recommendations on sclerotherapy, were published in 2022. By analyzing the key statements on sclerotherapy from these recent American and European guidelines, we aim to contribute to a broader understanding of clinical practices and outcomes in the field.
