Calcinosis cutis associated with syringoma in Down`s syndrome

초록

Several dermatologic diseases are associated with Down syndrome. Syringomas have been associated with this autosomal trisomy and were known to be limited to the periorbital lesions. Butterworth reported an 18.5% of syringomas limited to the periorbital region in Down syndrome and others reported eruptive patterns of syringoma or extremity distribution. Marron reported the case of simultaneous occurrence of transepidermal elimination of calcium associated with syringomas in Down syndrome. A 8-year-old girl presented with hyperkeratotic patches with painful yellowish hard papules on both palms and soles. She was previously diagnosed as Down syndrome and the skin lesions were 4 year's duration. She had the clinical appearance of autosomal trisomy and mental retardation. Histopathologic examination of the yellowish papule on the sole revealed subepidermal calcified nodule in the upper dermis and the features of syringoma in the adjacent dermis with transepidermal elimination. Serum calcium and parathytoid levels were within normal ranges. We report this case as another example of the simultaneous occurrence of transepidermal elimination of calcium associated with syringoma in a patient with Down syndrome.
