Carpal tunnel release with a minimal palmar incision

Open carpal tunnel release has widely been employed as the ideal solution for carpal tunnel syndrome since the 1970s. Although various endoscopic techniques offered several advantages in the late-1980s, many complications have been reported in association with the procedure. We have performed open carpal tunnel release with a minimal palmar incision not using any specific instrument. Preoperative and postoperative electrophysiologic parameters and symptomatic severity scales were compared with each other. Based on these results, we would recommend that open carpal tunnel release with a minimal palmar incision is also technically simple and carries minimal morbidity.
