Aime & Scopes

  • The Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ) is a peer-reviewed general medical journal that publishes original clinical research, commentaries, analyses, and reviews of clinical topics, health news, clinical practice updates and thought-provoking editorials. CMAJ has had substantial impact on health care and the practice of medicine in Canada and around the world. Mission: To champion knowledge that matters for the health of Canadians and the rest of the world. Vision: Best evidence. Best practice. Best health. Values: Service, Evidence, Integrity CMAJ has four areas of focus — mental health, health of vulnerable populations, health services and sepsis. As a general medical journal, CMAJ will continue to publish content on a wide variety of topics. However, these specific topic areas will guide content and submissions, contribute to the evidence base, influence clinical practice and raise awareness among policy-makers and the public of these pressing health issues. CMAJ's interim editor-in-chief is Dr. Diane Kelsall. Meet the journal's international team of medical editors. CMAJ's impact factor is 6.9 (ISI Web of Science, June 2019 — reflecting the year 2018). View the journal's past impact factors. CMAJ produces 50 online issues per year. A selection of articles appear in a monthly print version of CMAJ. More information about CMAJ's publishing model can be found here. CMAJ has published continuously since 1911. In 2011, CMAJ celebrated its 100th anniversary.
