From July 1985 to February 1993, 135 digits in 119 patients with complete amputations at or distal to the distal interphalangeal joint(Zone Ⅰ and Zone Ⅱ) were replanted using microvascular technique at the Korea University Guro Hospital. The review of the replantations can be summerized as follows: (1) Overall survival rate was 78% with that of Zone Ⅰ and Zone Ⅱ being 70% and 86% respectively. (2) there was no significant difference in survival rate according to the nature of injury. (3) Arterial anastomosis was done on terminal arterial branch or anatomotic arcade and venous anatomosis was done on dorsal or volar vein. Vein graft was used whenever necessary and when venous repair was impossible, external bleeding method was applied to maintatin venous drainage. The most common type of vascular repair in Zone Ⅰ involved only one artery anastomosis, and in Zone Ⅱ, one artery and one vein anastomosis. (4) the most common age distribution was the third decade(40%) and the male to female ratio was about 6:1. (5) Ratio of right to left hand was about 1:!, and the most commonly injured finger was index finger(41%) followed by the middle finger(23%). (6) The most common type of injury was crushed type(54 cases) followed by guillotine type(48 cases) and the common cause of injury was the industrial accidents involving cutter machines(48 cases) most and the press machines(43 cases).-
